Raising queens is a lot of hard work! For those of you who love the JZBZ queen cups but need a roller cage that actually works with them, there’s great news! I’ve designed a cage that’s just right to hold the cell cups while on the bar and in your incubator.
I’ve been raising queens for years and I love the JZBZ cups because of the quality and uniformity. I can also fit a lot more on a bar than the other kind. They’re great but the lack of a proper cage has been frustrating. In the last few years, I learned CAD design and 3D printing. It’s been very useful for lots of beekeeping equipment. This is the first one for public release but more are in the works!
This is a carefully designed cage specifically for JZBZ cups. They are made on 3D printers in small batches using PLA+, a durable and sturdy material. Colors may vary but all will be made with this material or something suitably strong. PLA+ is a more rigid plastic than the typical roller cage.
A cage rack is available for safe incubator use. Cages are held at just enough distance to maximize use of space in the incubator while keeping emerged virgin queens at a safe distance from each other.
The cage can also be used for introducing queens by swapping the used cell with a candy cap. It fits snugly in the top opening of the cage when the cell is removed.
